VIT has different type of messes for freshers. In the first year the caterers for all the 5 types of messes are Darling Vellore and PR Vellore. There are Five Types of Messes in VIT for Freshers namely South Indian Veg, South Indian Non Veg, North Indian Veg and North Indian Non Veg and Special Mess. Here in this post you'll get VIT Mess Menu.

VIT Mess Menu

Special Mess

The Darling Special Mess and PR Special Mess are considered to be the best among all other messes. They serve a wide variety of items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The quality of food here is good and the staff here keep up cleanliness.

Breakfast

  • 2 Glasses of juice, you can take more as nobody’s really watching you.
  • Plain Dosa (served every alternate day)
  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Cornflakes
  • Cold milk to go with the cornflakes
  • An Indian dish (sambar, chutney, idly, poori, Pongal, bhaji, vada)
  • Any prep of egg (boiled, scrambled, omelette)
  • Bread
  • French Toast
  • Butter, jam

Lunch

  • Sweet (Gulab jamun/ Peda / jalebi)
  • Rice
  • Dal
  • Sambar
  • Rasam
  • Roti/ nan / chappati / Phulka
  • Some sabji
  • Another special curry (chicken is served on alternate days)
  • Chicken Biryani (only on Sundays)
  • Chicken tandoori (twice a month)
  • Salad
  • Curd / butter milk
  • Wheel Chips (Alternate Days)
  • Papad / potato fry

Snacks

  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Pakora/Cutlet/Sandwich/ Burger/ Vada/Samosa/Bread Bhaji

Dinner

  • Fruit (usually banana, sometimes guavas and oranges)
  • Roti
  • Soup
  • Dal
  • Some preparation of paneer (alternate days)
  • Some kind of special rice
  • Curry
  • Cucumbers or onion
  • Noodles (once a week)
  • Milk
  • Dal

South Indian Veg Mess

The mess here, serves exceptionally good food. Be assured you won’t face any problem with the food served here. The mess is run by Darling Caterers and the staff here make sure the food served is of great quality.

  • Tea

  • An Indian dish (sambar, chutney, idly, poori, Pongal, bhaji, vada, Plain Dosa, Utthapam)
  • Bread
  • Butter, jam

Lunch

  • White Rice
  • Dal
  • Sambar
  • Rassam
  • Pickle
  • Some Vegetable Fry
  • A Special Rice [Lemon Rice, Bisi Bele Bath, Khuska Rice, Peas Pulav etc.]
  • Curd / butter milk
  • Wheel Chips / Appalam
  • Papad / potato fry

Snacks

  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Pakora/Cutlet/Sandwich/ Burger/ Vada/Samos/Bread Bhaji

Dinner

  • Fruit (usually banana, sometimes guavas and oranges)
  • Any one sweet (On Alternate Days)
  • Roti
  • Dal
  • Phulka
  • Some kind of a Special Rice or an Indian dish (sambar, chutney, idly, poori, vada, Plain Dosa, Utthapam, Pulka, Chapati)

North Indian Veg Mess

People who are pure vegetarians from the north will have no problem with this mess, although being in the south, this mess serves delicious north vegetarian meals. The mess is run by PR caterers.

  • An Indian dish (sambar, chutney, idly, poori, Pongal, bhaji, vada)
  • Bread
  • Phulka
  • Butter, jam

Lunch

  • Rice
  • Dal
  • Sambar
  • Rassam

  • Some Vegetable Fry
  • Curd / butter milk
  • Wheel Chips (Alternate Days)

South Indian Non Veg Mess

The South Indian mess serves delicious items, with just a few differences from the north mess. If you want to save a bit, but still enjoy most of the items, then take this mess. The mess is run by Darling Caterers.

  • An Indian dish (sambar, chutney, idly, poori, Pongal, bhaji, vada, Plain Dosa, Utthapam)

  • Boiled Egg or Omlete

The North Indian mess here, will make you feel just at home. Ideal for those who live in the north and crave for their kind of food in the south, this mess doesn’t disappoint.

Overall, the food served at VIT is good, and much above the standards of the food served in other colleges. If at all there are any complaints regarding the food served, VIT takes them very seriously and almost immediate action is taken.
